Doc Seigal's Accomplishment

August 8, 2011

MILESTONE ACCOMPLISHED!!!

200 WINS

On August 3, 2011, Alan “Doc” Seigal, current member of Fellman Bros., Division 4, achieved an outstanding Cape Senior Softball League feat by recording his 200th win.

This extraordinary pitching milestone recorded by “Doc” is a first by a member of the League and is worthy of special acknowledgment for this singular accomplishment.

During his 18 years in the League, “Doc” has played for and pitched on numerous teams within the various Divisions: Mid Cape Door; Realty Executives; Grumpy’s; Fellman Bros. And Weber Group to name a few.

From 2004-2007 “Doc” was also the starting pitcher for the 70+ Travel Team, sponsored by Back Office Associates, winning two separate National Championships.

Doc” was also the winning pitcher for the 70+ Travel Team during the Cape Cod Classic, held annually in September.

In 2002 “Doc” was the winning pitcher for the 65+ Travel Team, the Cape Cod Whalers, who won the gold medal in the Huntsman Senior Games located in St. George, Utah.

Throughout his years in the League, “Doc” has strived to be the best at his position—often arriving at the field several hours before game time, pitching a bucket of softballs against the backstop. Without question, his passion for the game, his individual efforts and his dedication to excel has resulted in an outstanding record which will be difficult to repeat.

As an long-standing member of the League “Doc” has developed many friendships within the various Divisions who continue to compete with him in the game of softball. Recently “Doc” gifted the League with a significant and generous contribution in gratitude and pride for his membership in the Cape Cod Senior Softball League.

Doc”, Congratulations on your recent accomplishment recording your 200th pitching win and grateful thanks on behalf of the League for your successes in this wonderful sport we all so enjoy!

Your friend,

               Van Khachadoorian, Commissioner

Revised "Force Play" Rule

June 26, 2011

Gentlemen:

Since the start of the 2011 season a number of concerns have been raised regarding the "Force Play Rule" at both second and third bases by players and managers resulting in confusion and, at times, angry reactions directed at our volunteer umpire staff.

The new "Force Play Rule" instituted this season was implemented as a means of minimizing confusion at second and third base.Unfortunately problems continue to exist.

Therefore, after discussions with the Chairman of the Rules Committee and other highly knowledgable umpires/managers, the below stated notice "Revised Force Play Rule" will be adopted as of Monday, June 27, 2011 and remain in efffect for the remainder of the 2011 season.

The Board and Chairman of the Rules Committee will continue to monitor the revised "Force Play Rule" as the season progresses and will be open to further review of the rule as needed.

Finally, it has come to my attention that several of our volunteer umpires have been unfairly treated in the performance of their duties.

This behavior will NOT be accepted or tolerated by ANY League member toward any of our volunteer umpires!

Van

Force Play Rule as of Monday, June 27, 2011:

Notice: Despite the good intentions of the rules committee the new "Force Play Rule" (Rule 16 Addendum) has not had the desired effect and has caused considerable controversy. Therefore, the Board has directed that the Addendum to Rule 16 be suspended for the remainder of the season. As of Monday, June 27 all force plays at second or third base will be officiated using ASA softball rules. Examples: Interference may be called if a runner commits an act (verbal or physical) that impedes or confuses a fielder. Obstruction may be called if a fielder is standing on the base and he is not in possession of the ball. Any flagrant contact is subject to ejection.

The Board strongly supports the many volunteer umpires and their willingness to take on this difficult task. As players and managers we must recognize their contributions and afford them the respect they have earned by doing what many are unwilling to do. They are willing to make the tough calls and we MUST treat those calls with respect.
