70s Travel Team Finishes 2nd in the 2015 CT Masters Tournament

The Cape Cod Whalers 70s (CCSSL 70s travel team) played in the CT Masters Games on 6/8 &6/9 in No. Branford , CT.  They played four seeding games; winning the first vs. Socrates/ Vios 65s(CT) 13-7, losing the 2nd to Syracuse Cyclones 70s 12-11 and losing to Bostonian Shoe 70s in the 3rd 19-14 on Monday. On Tuesday, they lost the final seeding game to Cozy Grille 70s (RI) 12-7. This placed the Whalers as the 4th seed.  In the semi-finals they then played the 1st seed (Bostonians), winning 16-9.  Cozy Grille (3rd seed) also won their semi-final game. So it was the 3rd seed vs. the 4th seed for the championship, which the Cape Cod Whalers lost 8-6. Chris Sweeney pitched all 6 games and was one of the hitting stars.  John Seliga and Peter Brooks also had a good tournament at the plate.



Back Office Associates 70+ senior softball team recently competed in the SSUSA Winter National Championship in Ft. Myers, Florida.  Back Office 70+ won their 3 seeding games by beating the Illinois Red Birds 15-14, the Virginia Bailey Talent 9-1 and the New Jersey Monkey Joe’s 26-6.  In the first round of elimination, BOA 70+ lost to the Jersey Masters 13-11, but came back to beat the Rhode Island Cozy Grille 12-6. BOA 70+ then lost its final game to the MA Bostonian Shoe 5-2. Back Office 70+ played outstanding defense with ESPN highlight catches by outfielders Rob Robidoux, John Seliga, Dave Tracey and Bill Eagan. Solid infield play by Tom McGann, Tom Farrell and Jim Ritchie, resulted in several double plays.  Pitcher Ray Beaupre went 4-2 after winning 2 games in a previous tournament. Bill Eagan (.684), Tom McGann (.650) and Dave Tracey (.600) were the top 3 batters for the BOA 70+ who outscored their opponents 75-46.  Dave McDonnell, Rich Johnston and Paul Gigley made significant contributions during the tournament.  The Back Office 70+ is made up from players from the Cape Cod Senior Softball League.

70's Travel Team Captures the 2014 Ocean State Classic Championship

The Back Office Associates 70's won the 2014 Ocean State Classic played in Warwick, RI on 8/19 and 8/20.  On the first day, BOA beat Socrates 70 of CT 18-6, before losing to Cozy Grill of RI 8-3.  They followed that with an 8-3 victory over CAM/HVAC of RI 25-8.  The first day’s results wound up with BOA being seeded #1 for the second day.  They started the day by beating CAM/HVAC in the semi-final 18-7.  In the championship game BOA beat Cozy Grill 21-11.  Tom Radziewicz and Dave Clark were a combined 23 for 28 and scored a total of 24 runs. The top 5 batters in line-up batted .650 and scored 53 runs.  Ray Beaupre pitched all 5 games and also batted .556. BOA demonstrated solid defense, strong hitting throughout the line-up, speed on the bases and a camaraderie unsurpassed! Congratulations to our 70's champions!

CT Masters Tournament

The Back Office Associates 70’s travel team played in the rain-shortened CT Masters Senior Softball Tournament this past Monday and Tuesday (June 9th & 10th).  BOA defeated the Boys of Summer (NJ) in the only game played on Monday 15-7. On Tuesday, BOA was defeated by Hannington’s of Mass 14-13 and in the semi-final game by Monkey Joe’s Big Nut (NJ) 15-14. Ray Beaupre pitched all 3 games and was the hitting star batting .875. Others who hit over .600 were Rob Robidoux, Tom Farrell, John Seliga and Paul Gigley.

On Tuesday, Back Office Associates 70’s (whose players are all members of the Cape Cod Senior Softball League) lost to a strong Joseph’s Chevrolet of FL in the seeding round. The Cape team played them even for 6 innings but Josephs broke it open with 11 runs in the 7th for their win. Back Office then played the Chicago Gray Sox, losing 12-9. This put Back Office into the Championship round at 0-2 and the 13th seed out of 13 teams. Unfortunately, Back Office had to play Josephs again and lost 8-7. This moved back Office into the losers’ bracket in double elimination. BOA would have to win 7 straight to win the Championship. On Wednesday Back Office 70’s beat the New Jersey Jaguars 18-5 and the Virginia Cavaliers 9-8. Two down, five to go. On Thursday Back Office beat Post 8 of FL 11-10 and Hanningtons of EMass  11-1. Four down, three to go. Back Office then had to play the Chicago Gray Sox again. At the end of six and a half innings the score was Chicago 17, BOA 11. In the bottom of the 7th Back Office rallied for 5 runs, but lost 17-16. After 8 games in 3 days in 88 degree heat, fatigue took its toll. Chicago next lost to Josephs Chevrolet. Josephs won the Championship and Back Office finished third out of 13 teams.


2013 Ocean State Senior Softball Champions


The Back Office Associates (Cape Cod Senior Softball League) 70+ travel team won the Ocean State Senior Softball Classic 70+ division, winning the championship game vs. Cozy Grille from RI by the score of 11-10. We played 2 games the day before, losing the first 17-16 and then coming back to win the second 18-17.

This is Back Office Associates 70's travel team.  All of the players are members of the CCSSL.  The Team won the 70's AAA division of CT Masters Games in North Branford, CT vs. the Western MA Relics, Hannington's and the Long Island Jaguars.  Glenn Rose was the hitting star going a sizzling 14 for 16 in the tournament.  The pitchers were Fred DeCost and Rich Johnston. The team is managed by Tom Radziewicz.
