The 2021 recipient of the Cape Cod Senior Softball League’s Spirit of Softball Award, the most prestigious of the League’s recognitions, is John Hession.

John started to play in the League almost 20 years ago and has served as the League’s treasurer for the past 10 years. He has contributed to Cape softball in many other ways, including volunteering at the Cape Classic tournament. He has spent countless hours on the field, at board meetings, and aligning the numbers for the budget, and knows the League and how it functions from every perspective. Born in Dorchester and a graduate of Catholic Memorial High School and Boston College, where he majored in accounting, John is married to Ann and they have a son and a daughter. He coached his son from tee ball through Babe Ruth baseball and his daughter’s many softball teams, teaching them the fundamentals of the game while ensuring that every practice and game was fun. He has had a life-long devotion to sports, especially his native city’s baseball team. He has attended scores of Red Sox games and has an encyclopedic knowledge of the team’s history and an endless store of amusing stories and anecdotes about baseball. A partner in the CPA firm of Hession & Pare P.C., John also serves on the Board of Trustees of Elliot Hospital and is a board member of the Bedford Land Trust.
