Gentlemen:
I will be using the e mail and website format to disseminate news items and other related League information to you in a timely manner. Hereafter you will have the responsbility of forwarding important news items to your team members, especially those individuals who do not have a computer or access to one....some 90 + members.
The email process will replace the bimonthly newsletters which were distributed to all team members in past years.
1. League Mid-Season Meeting has been scheduled for July 24, 2010 at the VFW Hall Chatham. Refreshments will be available 8:30-9AM. The business agenda begins at 9AM promptly. Following the meeting, at 12 Noon a picnic has been planned for League members/families...food, drink and fun!! No cost to League members. Division 1& 2 Presidents are in charge of this event. We will be asking all to contribute some food items (i.e. hot, cold salads, desserts, etc. Hot dogs, hamburgers, beer and cold drinks will be provided by the Board!! Stay tuned!
2. Team standings will be available on the website within a few weeks. Hank Bowen is waiting for a few more completed games so standings can be more meaningful. Managers, make sure your score book is accurate as games are completed in the event there are discrepencies in the standings.
3. REMINDER . Game cancellations can only be approved by the Division Presidents/Commissioner. Make-ups of all cancelled games will be rescheduled by Ray Beaupre in collaboration with the Commissioner. Once cancelled games have been rescheduled, notification will be forwarded to Mel Fulcher, Umpire Coordinator, and to the affected team Managers.
4. Baker Field Game Time: Once the kids and staff depart for their summer vacation (June 24th at Noon) games scheduled at Baker Field shall start promptly at 3:30PM. A second game has been scheduled for Divisions 1 & 2 and must start promptly at 6PM.
5. The first games scheduled at Potter, Memorial, Kelley, Flax Pond, Sandy Pond and TownHouse fields must start promptly at 3:30PM... NOT 4PM . A second game may also be scheduled on these fields at 6PM.
6. Equipment Needs. By now all managers should have received a new scorebook, ice packs and team uniforms. Unfortunately, CVS did not place the order for first aid kits as requested. Therefore, Managers in need of a first aid kid should go to their local CVS or other drugstore and purchase a kit. They cost about $10-$15 at CVS. You are authorized to purchase a kit and give me or Jack Carey, Treasurer, the receipt for reimbursement.
7. Bats/Policy. Bats approved by A.S.A. and currently used by COTSL members are authorized by the Board. This includes the "Red Bat" SB73 Voltage. We will keep our members informed regarding bat issues as they surface within the four Divisions.
7. Uniforms. As I visit or umpire at various Division games, I am pleased to see our team members in complete uniform, with shirts "tucked in". On a few occasions I have also observed some players without League pants/shorts and socks. If you need apparel for your team members give Jim DeVoe a call ASAP.(508-221-0396).
8. Congratulations!! A newly-organized, 80+ Travel Team sponsored by our League, competed in the first annual tournament in Springfield Mass on June 11, 2010. Our team played games against the Worcester Relics and a Springfield team and went undefeated with team defense a major factor. Ernie MacFadgen hit the only home run, Hal Martell made the outfield "catch of the day" and Guy Brigida had a strong game at 2nd base. Thanks to the efforts of Coach Fred Brown, assisted by Dick Carroll for making the 80+ team possible. Good job by all members! We are truly proud of your accomplishments.
